New Delhi: Urvil Patel from Gujarat has created history by smashing the fastest century by an Indian in T20 cricket. The dynamic batsman reached the coveted milestone in just 28 balls against Tripura during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on Wednesday, November 27, at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore. Surpassing Rishabh Pant's previous record of a 32-ball century set in 2018 for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Patel's incredible feat has left cricket enthusiasts awe-struck.

Urvil Patel smashed an unbeaten 113 off just 35 balls, hammering seven fours and 12 sixes to power Gujarat to a thumping win, chasing down 156 with 58 balls to spare. Patel’s blazing knock also secured him the second-fastest century in T20 cricket, just behind Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who hit a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus earlier this year at the Happy Valley Ground.
In November 2023, Urvil Patel also recorded the second-fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket. He reached the milestone in just 41 balls for Gujarat against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh, narrowly missing Yusuf Pathan’s 40-ball hundred for Baroda against Maharashtra in 2010.

Urvil Patel, hailing from Mehsana, Baroda, began his professional cricket journey in 2018, making his T20 debut for Baroda against Mumbai in Rajkot. The same year, he ventured into List A cricket. However, it was only six years later, during the previous Ranji Trophy season, that he finally made his first-class debut.
Urvil Patel was picked by the Gujarat Titans for INR 20 lakh in the 2023 IPL season but didn’t get an opportunity to play a single match. After being released by the franchise, he went unsold for the upcoming edition. In 44 T20 matches, Urvil has amassed 988 runs at an average of 23.52 and an impressive strike rate of 164.11, including one century and four half-centuries.
